Virtual stretching means mentally going through some physical stretches without any apparent movement. Focusing on the thought of a movement can provide just as much relief as the movement itself. The first part of the exercise aims to help you become aware of how the body reacts to a certain movement so that it can record that sensation. It will then be much easier and effective to reproduce it mentally in the second part of the exercise.
