Sixteen-year-old Fern, a beautiful blue Burmese, is one of the Cat Hospital’s favourite patients.  She has been diagnosed with feline leukaemia and is struggling to breathe because of a nasal tumour.  Owner Eleanor is distraught. Since the death of Eleanor’s partner, Fern has played a vital role in her life. Eleanor visits Clare at the Cat Hospital to decide on the best course of treatment.  Sadly, she learns that Fern hasn’t long to live... the team’s job now is to make the time Fern has left as comfortable as possible. Claudia Wagner has seven cats. When two of her cats were knocked down and killed outside her home Claudia was heartbroken. She was equally determined to let her cats enjoy an outdoor life and to prevent tragedy striking again. Her solution -she built a Catio - an enclosed outdoor garden specially for cats. Four of Claudia’s cats are prize winning Maine Coons. All are neutered except one, Franklin. Franklin is a magnificent specimen but inexperienced when it comes to mating and Claudia is determined his genes will not be lost to the Maine Coon breed. Before introducing him to Ruby, an older and vastly more experienced female, Claudia brings him to Clare at the cat hospital to give him a physical to ensure he is up to the task.   When Angela Murphy lived in Iowa, USA she rescued Honey, a Maine Coon from a shelter.  When she moved home to Ireland, she brought Honey with her. Honey has had a troubled past. When she lived in the US she was declawed. It’s a common practice there but it’s been discovered to be extremely debilitating for cats. At the Cat Hospital, Clare explains the effects that de-clawing has on cats and why it’s illegal in Ireland.
