Sophie tries the morning rituals of Shanghaians : tai-chi. In the arms of the smiling Mrs. Zhu, renowned tai-chi master, Sophie learns to discover the relaxing virtues of this thousand year old martial art. Sophie will get lost in the typical passageways of the old city, caught between the fried food smells, the « sound of the birds » attributed to Ma-jong games and the giant tea market with intoxicating scents. She attempts « cupping » along with Jian Mei, a young trendy Shanghaian… A strange local practice, where one covers his back with boiling hot suction cups ! But Shanghai is also a party city. On Saturday nights, we forget about old customs. And it’s in hundreds of night clubs in the city that Sophie and Jian Mei finally decide to treat their lumbar bones…
