Philippa was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 10 years old, and at the age of 18 she was told by doctors that she was unlikely to live until 21.
Despite these odds Philippa forged a very successful career for herself in London. Philippa eventually had to retire from her work and settled down with her husband and a Yorkshire Terrier called Poppy. The couple realized that just before Philippa was about to have an attack, Poppy would run away. Now Poppy’s natural instinct has been honed by the charity ‘Cancer and Bio-detection Dogs,’ and she is able to warn Philippa of when an attack is coming, giving Philippa a new found sense of freedom.
