E01 | Wonderful World of Puppies | Multiple births

This program is not currently available

In this episode we witness the miracle of birth and meet some colourful puppy characters for the first time, including: a rescue collie called Bear; two silken windhound pups; lonely Shetland sheepdog pup, Single Simon; and a Pomeranian called Eggnog Treacle who does dog yoga. At the heart of this episode though, is a tale of two births that happen on one magical night. In Eastleigh Hampshire, first time mum, Hungarian vizsla Beans, gives birth to twelve healthy puppies and an unlucky thirteenth, Gilbert, who faces a big challenge to get his legs working. In Bewdley Worcestershire, golden retriever mum Scarlett is rushed to the vets for an emergency caesarean. Eleven little puppies are whipped out. The last is Rocky who finally gasps air after several tense minutes on the treatment table. We meet fourteen-week-old recued collie dog, Bear. Neglected and unwell, he is at a foster home where he is recovering in preparation for finding a ‘forever home’. But his new home will exceed his (and our) wildest dreams. Silken windhounds are a recently established breed, related to borzois and whippets. We meet puppies Safiyya and Duke, as they prepare to follow their parents’ into the art of ‘lure coursing’. First, they need to learn what a lure is and experience a race meeting. We follow Pomeranian pup, Eggnog Treacle as she accompanies her human mum to yoga. Eggnog learns the value of some yoga positions but loses it slightly when it comes to the bit about reflection. We also meet a Shetland sheepdog puppy, Single Simon, who has to grow up without any brothers or sisters. And four cockapoo Essex girls as they take the momentous step to move to their forever homes which, luckily are all on the same street. So they can still party.
