Clare Balding is back for a final time with emotional tales of disappearing dogs, and sharing the best advice for keeping your dog safe. Reporter Jennifer Reoch meets Cockapoo Paddy who bolted from his dog walker near a live military firing range sparking a frantic search. Using thermal telescopes and patience Paddy was brought home within days. Deacon Blue drummer and dog lover Dougie Vipond meets tiny Bella, a jack Russell terrier who transformed her owner Linda’s life, helping her to lose two and a half stone, and recover from both hips being replaced. In the Peak District labrador Grace disappeared while walking in the hills. When darkness fell and the frantic search had to be called off, her owner thought all was lost, but the next morning Grace was discovered trapped down a deep crevasse by another dog – Lottie. JLS member, and dog-lover JB Gill meets Davey who ran off when out walking with his dog walker and was hit by a car, damaging his back legs. After many operations he had to have one of his legs amputated and now he has regular hydrotherapy to help all of his joints stay supple and pain-free. Clare finds out some tips for keeping your dog more secure when out walking, so they are less likely to get spooked and run away from dog behaviourist Steve Hutley; and how to train them to go to their bed when the doorbell goes – rather than escaping through the front door! Top veterinary scientist Dr Augusto Coppi explains why dogs have such a powerful sense of smell, and the incredible ways they use it. Clare also gets snap happy with DJ Scott Mills as they find out the ways to capture the perfect photo of your dog – if they disappear you will need clear, identifiable pictures of your dog to share with your local community, and to help get them home sooner.
