Kaya is a black Labrador who works with handler Lori Spence as part of the Avalanche Rescue Program in Aspen. Kaya helps locate people trapped on the mountain, and assists in lift and gondola evacuations. Windance Farm is based in Northern New York State and prides itself on an extensive fibre herd. With an array of livestock bred for their exquisite wool, the farm has placed its livelihood in the hands of a rather extraordinary guard - livestock guard dogs. The farm has over fifteen Maremma working dogs who are trusted with guarding the farms entire livestock from predators that roam the region, such as wolves and coyotes. We'll find out why this breeds natural ability is perfect for the job, and we'll meet Kaida, who is training her puppies in the basics of guarding. The Military Dog Centre in Austria is the largest centre in the world to specialize in the training of Rottweilers as working dogs. In Austria, the Rottweiler is the breed of choice for working dog roles, praised for its versatility, and strength. The dogs are bred and trained at the centre and over 1500 have entered service since it was set up. The Rottweiler's, along with Belgian Sheepdogs and German Shepherds are trained in various roles and can function as sniffer dogs, protection dogs and search and rescue dogs.
