E63 | Through your eyes | Capetown

The founding city of South Africa was born 4 centuries ago with the arrival by sea of men from different parts of the world. The soul of South African society was built on this cultural diversity. To better understand it, Sophie meets the descendants of the Dutch pioneers who perpetuate artisanal traditions originating from Europe in the sublime, wine-growing countryside. Then she moves away from the beautiful districts of Cape Town, in one of the townships where non-white populations such as the Xhosa, one of the communities that came from Black Africa, are secluded. In another of these suburbs, Sophie discovers an astonishing and moving culture: that of the Cape Malays, the descendants of slaves deported from Asia who perpetuate their common memory through songs that mix East and West.
