On Jeju Island, home of the legendary Haenyeo divers, we experience one of the most awe-inspiring cultural traditions in the world. These women—many in their 60s, 70s, and 80s—dive deep into cold waters without oxygen tanks, harvesting shellfish and seaweed with incredible skill and stamina. Mike joins them, suiting up to attempt the dive himself. The comparison is humbling: while the Haenyeo descend gracefully and calmly, Mike struggles with breath-holding, buoyancy, and cold exposure. Their mastery is a testament to generations of practice, strength, and community support. After the dive, we cook the day’s catch together, sharing stories and laughter. This episode celebrates resilience, empowerment, and the extraordinary capabilities of women who have shaped the identity of Jeju for centuries.
